MyLR&P: a tool that has emerged from the firm’s work

Every law firm has its own habits and its own way of organising itself. There are routines that are repeated day in, day out, information that needs to be shared amongst colleagues, and steps that, over time, become an integral part of the firm’s day-to-day operations.
However, when selecting a practice management system, it is not always possible to adapt it to these habits. Often, one has to learn to use the tool as it is, whilst adapting one’s own working methods to some extent.
It was with this in mind that the development of MyLR&P began.
The project arose from a collaboration between the firm and a friend with experience in the IT sector. The first step was to observe the daily workflow: the opening of a case, the flow of information, and the activities involving several specialists.
On this basis, the firm began developing a tool tailored precisely to its actual working practices. The functions were not designed on the drawing board. They emerged from the requirements that arose day by day, and each time a new need arose, it was possible to respond accordingly.
Today, MyLR&P is the central hub where everything relating to a case can be found: its history, documents, who is working on it and what still needs to be done. Whoever picks up the case again – even weeks later or in place of a colleague – knows exactly where to start.
Furthermore, the tool is never considered finished. The firm is evolving, and MyLR&P is evolving with it.
The basic idea is simple: to spend less time on organisation and more time on legal work and the firm’s clients.
In this article, we provide an initial insight into the project. In the next few articles, we will take a closer look at some of the features and show how they are used in day-to-day workflows.
